Susan Tatah: Why African Community in Germany Awards is a facelift for Africans in Germany

The AFRONEWS – Ortel Mobile African Community in Germany Awards is a unique initiative that recognises the engagement and contributions of Africans in Germany to the growth and development of Germany, Dr Susan Tatah, a Consultant and Journalist has said.

Dr Tatah, who is the Founder of Pan African Daily TV, said she was “humbled and excited” to be a Matron of the African Community in Germany Awards 2022, describing the Awards as a “credible initiative”.

“For the first time in history, Africans in Germany have been recognized for their engagement and contributions to the growth and development of Germany. I truly appreciate and thank this initiative. Just like Africans in USA, Canada, France, Italy, UK., etc, Africans in Germany are active and participate in building Germany,” Dr Tatah said.

The African Community in Germany Awards celebrate and recognise outstanding achievements of Africans in different fields in Germany. They are a way of appreciating and encouraging Africans who have excelled in different fields and are making a positive contribution to the German society.

The Awards recognise the good work done by African organisations/associations and businesses to promote a positive image of Africa and Africans, facilitate integration of Africans in Germany, promote business opportunities and international cooperation between Germany and African countries.

The African Community in Germany Awards are organised by Afronews.de, the newspaper for Africans in Germany.

Ortel Mobile, Germany’s leading prepaid sim cards provider for people with a migration background, is the major sponsor of the African Community in Germany Awards 2022.

The Awards 2022 are also sponsored by Taptap Send, an easy-to-use smartphone app that lets you send money to family and friends with just a few taps and a debit card. No more waiting in line, complicated fees, or wondering whether loved ones received their transfers.

“The African Community in Germany Awards recognise the engagement and contributions of Africans in Germany and beyond to the economy, world peace and togetherness,” Dr Tatah said.

By 2020, Dr Tatah said, there were about 1 million blacks or Africans in Germany. “However, it’s still difficult to see a black person occupying an important position. Although I know highly professional black Germans who are first class managers in top companies like Daimler, Bosch, amongst others, most black people are still locked up in lower-level positions,” she said.

Dr Tatah is the Founder of Afrika Festival Tübingen, one of the biggest and most successful African festivals in Germany. She has defied all odds to create this platform that proudly celebrates African cultures.

She described the African Community in Germany Awards as “a milestone, a new beginning in which Africans like Stephen Ogongo (Editor of Afronews) is changing that narrative, giving Africans in Germany their rightful place.”

Dr Tatah added: “It is of essence for every African in Germany to be part of this great paradigm, for me the African Community in Germany Awards is a face-lift for Africans in Germany. We Africans and our children born in Germany deserve much better, and the African Community in Germany Awards is a step in the right direction.”
