Skin of two Chinese doctors turn dark after coronavirus recovery

Skin of two Chinese doctors who were seriously ill with coronavirus turned dark after being brought back from the brink of death.

Dr. Hu Weifeng and Dr. Yi Fan, had previously caught the virus when they were treating patients at the Wuhan Central Hospital back in January.

Doctors told the Chinese state media that their skin apparently changed color because of hormonal imbalances after their own livers were damaged by the virus itself.

The two doctors who were both diagnosed on January 18, are colleagues with late whistle-blower Li Wenliang, who was punished for sounding the alarm of the virus and then died of the disease on February 7.

On Monday Dr Yi CCTV from his hospital bed that he had largely recovered. “When I first gained conscious, especially after I got to know about my condition, I felt scared. I had nightmares often,” he said.

Dr Hu who underwent ECMO therapy for more than a month, regained his ability to speak on April 11. He is still in intensive care unit.

According to Dr Li, the skin of the two doctors turned dark because of a type of medicine they received at the beginning of the treatment. He however didn’t reveal the name of the medicine. Dr Li said one of the side effects of the drug is the darkening of the skin colour.

Dr Li hopes that the skin of the two doctors will return to normal after the function of their livers improves.
