Elizabeth Horlemann challenges Africans in Germany to actively fight against systemic racism

African Community Awards. African Community in Germany Awards 2022. Elizabeth Horlemann, the founder of raceThink Roundtable Dinner Events has challenged the African Community in Germany to actively fight against systemic racism and global white privilege.

Ms Horlemann won the Lifetime Achievement Award 2022 at the AFRONEWS – Ortel Mobile African Community in Germany Awards 2022. In her thanksgiving speech at the Awards Gala Night, she thanked Afronews for the Lifetime Achievement Award. “It was a total surprise to me and I really appreciate it,” she said.

Ms Horlemann thanked her son Ashiembi Horlemann for his great support since she lost her husband last year. She also thanked Ms Gill Lwangu, the founder and CEO of My Ethnic Cooking and Catering for being an amazing person, and the Afronews.de editor Stephen Ogongo for creating a space for the African community in Germany to celebrate themselves.

She read quote by Steve Biko which revolves around the work she does to fight racism in Germany. “The most potent weapon in the hands of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed,” said Bantu Stephen Biko, a South African anti-apartheid activist.

Ms Horlemann pointed out that all – blacks, white, etc “contribute in one way or another to keep systemic racism alive” and challenged all “to deconstruct in order to dismantle global white privilege.”

The African Community in Germany Awards Gala Night 2022

All winners were announced and recognised at the African Community in Germany Awards Gala Night on 22nd October 2022 at Bürgerzentrum Niederhöchstadt, Montgeronplatz 1, 65760 Eschborn.

Fifteen awards were presented to Africans who have excelled in different fields in Germany during the Awards Gala Night in the presence of so many Excellencies, eminent business and community leaders.
