First Deltakron case in Germany: Amid discussions about the end of the coronavirus measures in Germany the first case of Deltakron was confirmed.
First Deltacron variant case in Germany detected:
The Robert Koch Institute (IRK) has confirmed to the Der Speiegel newspaper that there is at least one case of the Deltacron hybrid variant discovered in Germany.
The Deltacron is a combination of parts of the Delta variant (AY.4) and the Omicron variant (BA.1). It can occur if a person is infected with two variants of the coronavirus at the same time.
Already in early 2022, a report from Cyprus about a mixed variant causes quite a stir but this news later turned out to be an error due to contamination in the laboratory. But now the hybrid variant is spreading and many questions arise as to how a new strain of coronavirus could be lethal.
According to scientific research, this is relatively normal virus development which occurs when different variants of the virus spread at the same time reports Infranken.de.
What is happening now with the Omicron and the previously dominant Delta variant is what was due to be expected. At the end of February this year, 34 cases of infections with the new variants have been registered in the UK.
Deltacron was put on the watch list in early February, right after the first cases had surfaced.

So far, only a few cases of Deltacron infection are known: Germany 1 case, Netherlands 1 case, United States 2 cases, Denmark 8 cases, France 33 cases, UK 34 cases.
Virologists however continue to warn that mutations could fuel the pandemic again. Christian Drosten  explained in early 2022 that it is wrong to suppose that further mutations automatically lead to milder courses.
The risk of mutations increases with more cases of infections especially at this point where safety measures are set to be lifted on March 20th. We wrote about it here: Germany to retain some COVID-19 restrictions after March 20th – ‘Freedom Day’.
With the number of infections in Germany increasing again, most federal states have decided to extend the restrictions and more than half of the German federal heads of state.
