Ghana becomes the first African Country to evacuate its’ citizens following the Russia-Ukraine war that saw African students stranded in the country.
Ghana evacuates students from Russia-Ukraine invasion:
The first batch of 17 students arrived on Tuesday morning at Kotoka International Airport in Accra, Ghana on two flights.
The students looked very calm and were welcomed by a government delegation led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong.
The country’s Foreign Minister had also announced that 460 students were en route to Poland, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and the Czech Republic and even more can come home and the government would see to it they reach home safely.
The African students are expected home in a few days as the government makes more efforts to bring more stranded Ghanaian students home.
VOA reported that the students were later reunited with their parents, who were in a separate meeting with government officials.

Meanwhile, the total number of Ghanaian living in Ukraine is unknown and the government is currently meeting parents and guardians to document al students in the country.
It is estimated that more than 1,000 Ghanaian nationals are currently studying or working in Ukraine –BBC.
