Gambia football Federation (GFF) is calling for action to be taken against Djamel Belmadi, Algeria national team coach after making inciteful comments against Bakary Gassam, Gambian referee.
What happened between Bakary Gassama and Djamel Belmadi?
Bakary Gassama was victim of criticms from Algeria after he officiated their 2022 FIFA World Cup playoffs against Cameroon. Algeria were enranged with some of the decisions made in the match after losing to Cameroon 2 -1 therefore failing to qualify for Qatar World Cup 2022.
According to BBC Africa, Belmadi is accused of encouraging verbal and physical attacks on a video posted by Algeria Football Federation (FAF). “Never again will we allow a few people to conspire against our country” Belmadi said on the video.

Belmadi also expressed his disappointment after seeing Bakary Gassama seated comfortably at the Algiers airport. “I am not saying you have to kill him, I’m not saying things like that but he is a bully, more than a bully and we can never accept that.”
GFF has presented the matter to FIFA and CAF hoping that the issue will be intervened. “We have asked the Algeria Football Federation to make a public statement condemning the actions of Mr Belmadi and all the verbal attacks against Mr Gassama by Algerians” the statement read
“Otherwise, their federation will be held responsible and complicit for any bharm which happen to him.”
