Kaufland closes more stores
In 2024, Kaufland closed three stores: in June, branches in Siegen (North Rhine-Westphalia) and Greiz (Thuringia) shut down, followed by the Bochum-Ruhrpark store (North Rhine-Westphalia) in September. More closures are planned for 2025, with the Recklinghausen Palais Vest branch set to close in January and the Dortmund-Mengede store in March. Kaufland shared these plans in late 2023 during an interview with Heilbronner Stimme.
Not just closures
Despite the store closures, Kaufland continues to grow in Germany. In 2024, the company opened two new branches in North Rhine-Westphalia. Additionally, in November, the Bundeskartellamt approved Kaufland’s acquisition of four more locations, according to Echo24. Currently, Kaufland operates over 770 stores across Germany and employs more than 90,000 people.
