Germany reports crimes asylum seekers
German authorities reported that there was a significant decrease in criminal offences which could be triggered by the pandemic and severe cases of the lockdown. Media reports that there was a record 1,250 crimes against asylum seekers and their accommodation in Germany.
The number of registered cases fell by a quarter compared to 2020 and according to data, the lowest level since systematic recording began in 2014. In 2020, the authorities reported 1,690 attacks on refugees and their accommodations, and in 2019 there were 1,749 such cases.
The peak was in 2016 as a result of the refugee crisis with more than 3,500 incidents.

The number of violent crimes is similar to 2020
The number of acts of violence remained at 216 last year similar to 2020 while at the time it was 246. Some of the cases against asylum seekers and refugees have involved explosives, fires, weapons that have led to dangerous physical injuries.
It should be noted that some of the attacks against asylums seekers have been aimed directly to those not in an accommodation setting (1184 attacks). Another 70 attacks targeted against refugee shelters and another 20 on aid organisation and their volunteers last year – t-online.
