Eliud Kipchoge wins Berlin Marathon for the 5th time

African news. Kenyan marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge, the world’s greatest marathoner ever, broke his own world record by winning the Berlin Marathon again making it the fifth time the legend has won the race.

Eliud Kipchoge (38) a two-time Olympic champion, wrote another chapter of his brilliant career in Germany, as he broke the world record again and earned his 16th win in his 19th career marathon to bolster his claim as the greatest runner in history.

When asked about his win this is what Eliud had to share: “To be the first one winning the Berlin Marathon five times is something that I could only dream of when I started my career. We have so much history together whereby I cannot put into words the feeling I get when running these streets. Thank you to all the fans out on the course today. I heard all of your cheers. You motivate me to keep pushing always. Berlin, my special place.”

Update: Eliud Kipchoge, the world’s greatest marathoner ever, broke his own world record by winning the Berlin Marathon, clocking 2:01:09 to lower the previous record time of 2:01:39 he set in the German capital in 2018.

He is the world record holder in the marathon with a time of 2:01:39, set on 16 September 2018, at the 2018 Berlin Marathon. His run broke the previous world record by 1 minute and 18 seconds. He has been described as “the greatest marathoner of the modern era”.

Eliud won his first individual world championship title in 2003 by winning the junior race at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships and setting a world junior record over 5000 m on the track.

At the age of eighteen, he became the senior 5000 m world champion at the 2003 World Championships in Athletics with a championships record, then followed with an Olympic bronze for Kenya in 2004 and a bronze at the 2006 IAAF World Indoor Championships.

A five-time World Championship 5000 m finalist, Kipchoge took silver medals at the 2007 World Championships, 2008 Summer Olympics and 2010 Commonwealth Games.
