Minimum wage increase in Germany in 2022: Coalition talks between Germany’s 3 ruling parties are ongoing. One of the issues discussed was the minimum wage with a rapid increase expected from 2022.

In July 2021, the minimum wage in Germany was set to increase to EUR 9.60 gross per hour. This amounts to EUR 1,585 per month.

Come 2022, it is expected to increase to EUR 9.82 per hour (per month – EUR 1,571.20), and from July 1, 2022, it will reach EUR 10.45 per hour and EUR 1,672.00 per month.

It turns out, however, that next year the minimum wage in Germany will increase by as much as 25 percent.

The minimum wage in Germany in 2022 will increase to 12 euros

The leaders of the social democratic SPD, the Greens and the liberal FDP announced on Friday in Berlin that they were recommending their parties to start coalition negotiations that will determine the running of Germany’s government.

The parties came up with a document from the preliminary talks that were submitted to party bodies for approval.

German media highlighted the key point to the exercise reporting that, the document was not a coalition agreement but rather an insinuation of the plans of a possible coalition.

The pre-agreed issues include, inter alia, the question of the minimum wage. It is was agreed that it would be increased in the first year of government to EUR 12 per hour, or 25 percent against the current 9.60 euro.

On a monthly basis, this will result in an increase of almost EUR 300 gross: the minimum wage will amount to approximately EUR 1980 and will be the second highest in the entire European Union.

What else does the coalition document contain?

In the document published after the initial coalition talks of the SPD with the Greens and the FDP, in addition to the increase in the minimum wage, other issues were also included, including: not for a tax increase, no general speed limit, and a faster departure from coal-based energy.
