The cities of Dresden, Chemnitz and Leipzig alone earned almost two million euros on fines for such offences, reports the portal mdr.de.
While high fines are intended to deter and educate, sometimes the fines also overwhelm those affected, for example children and adolescents who were already exposed to particular stress during closure.
In the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt the tickets issued to minors who were caught talking to a group of friends were sharply criticised.
Fines of up to 178 euros have been issued on this counter to over 1,000 boys and girls. Meanwhile, yesterday, the authorities of Thuringia announced this week that parents of students not tested for the coronavirus will be fined from 60 to 250 euros, informs the portal n-tv.de.
Thuringia’s Minister of Education, Helmut Holter, announced on Wednesday 1 September that not testing a child for Sars-CoV-2 would be an administrative offense .
Holter said the fine for parents who refused to submit to an examination of their children should be spread out. Higher penalties will be imposed for repeated refusal to take the test.

The testing phase will be carried out during the first 14 days of school, what Holter calls the safety buffer. During this time, compulsory tests for coronavirus will be held in schools twice a week. Students who have been vaccinated against Covid-19 and have recovered from the tests will be exempted.
