The traditional Berlin New Year’s Eve party at the Brandenburg Gate will be held without an audience this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Germany New year’s Eve celebration at the Brandenburg Gate is considered to be the largest event, which last year attracted several hundred thousand people, including Poles who every year come to Berlin from Poland on this occasion.

A new wave of contagions in February would be the result of the crowd’s merriment, capital city minister Ramona Pop explains the decision in the Berliner Morgenpost. That is why the city is planning a New Year’s Eve concert at the Brandenburg Gate, but it will be broadcast by television and without the audience.

More Christmas markets in Berlin canceled

The list of canceled Christmas markets in Berlin grows longer: in 2020 there will be no markets at the Gendarmenmarkt, at the Charlottenburg Palace, at Alexanderplatz and the Rotes Rathaus. The fair at Breitscheidplatz has not yet made a negative decision, but it is taken into account at any time.
