The daughter of Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari is in self-isolation after returning from the United Kingdom, the First Lady Aisha Buhari, has said.
Mrs Buhari, who tweeted the developments through her personal handle, @aishambuhari, said she acted based on the advice of the Minister of Health and the Presidential Task Force on Covid -19. She wrote, “Good afternoon Nigerians, earlier today (Thursday) my daughter returned from the UK being among the high-burden listed countries of COVID-19.
“Based on the advice of the Hon. Minister Of Health, Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 and that of NCDC, she is on self-isolation, not because she displayed any symptoms of the COVID-19.
“Please, I urge all parents to do the same, if possible, as prevention is better than cure.”
Ms Buhari has also ordered the immediate shutdown of her office for two weeks and directed the staff of her office who recently returned from the United Kingdom to work from home, The Guardian.ng reported.
Ms Buhari added: “Let’s keep following the advice of the Federal Ministry of Health and the NCDC (National Centre for Disease Control), which encourages maintaining social distancing, high hygiene culture through regular washing of hands with soaps and sanitizers.”
Lagos State Government confirmed that four new people had tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the country’s recorded cases to 11.
Commissioner for Health Prof. Akin Abayomi said health officials were tracing over 1,300 persons in connection with the cases.
To fight the spread of coronavirus, the Government of Nigeria has asked schools to shut down and banned public gatherings of more than 50 people, particularly religious congregations.
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) however holds that it’s not necessary to ban religious gatherings. “We believe we will never get to the point of having to ban all services and churches will be grounded,” CAN’s Lagos chairman has said.
