Nigerian-German player, Taiwo Awoniyi, now ranks as Nigerian fourth top scorers in the German Bundesliga surpassing legend Jay-Jay Okocha.
Awoniyi played an amazing game on Sunday with his team Union Berlin defeating Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 at An der Alten Försterei.
Showing much prowess and skill, the African star managed to grab the first goal of the game in the 17th minute from a Rani Khedira long ball in a brilliant corner kick.
Taiwo Awoniyi took his Bundesliga tally for the season to 13 goals setting a new club record for the most goals in a single season in Germany’s topflight by a Union player.
According to Punch, the previous record of 12 was set by Sebastian Andersson in the 2019/20 campaign, which Awoniyi equalled when he was on target against Cologne on match-day 28 of the 2021/22 season.
The former Liverpool player made history becoming the fourth highest scoring Nigerian in the history of the Bundesliga with 19 career goals.
With this win he overtook legendary Eintracht Frankfurt retired midfielder Okocha, who found the back of the net 18 times in 90 topflight appearances. READ ALSO: Jay-Jay Okocha cautions Nigeria Super Eagles ahead of their match against Ghana in the world cup playoffs
