Lassa Fever, an acute viral haemorrhagic fever hits West Africa. Watch these VIDEOS to learn about it

New videos in Pidgin English and English have been launched in Nigeria to raise awareness of Lassa fever – an acute viral haemorrhagic illness.

Oladayo-Stephen

In the videos Dr Oladayo Stephen provides full details about the disease, its symptoms and mode of spread.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), the Lassa virus is transmitted to humans via contact with food or household items contaminated with rodent urine or faeces.

Person-to-person infections and laboratory transmission can also occur, particularly in hospitals lacking adequate infection prevent and control measures.

While the Lassa fever is endemic in Benin, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Mali, Sierra Leone, and Nigeria, it probably exists in other West African countries as well, says the WHO.
