Coronavirus restrictions in Germany: From 2 p.m. as of yesterday, Angela Merkel has been talking to federal state leaders about the next steps that need to be taken to combat the coronavirus outbreak in Germany. Here’s what we know so far:
Christmas meetings
Based on the first information, it has been decided that strict contact coronavirus restrictions will be set in Germany to reduce the pandemic will be relaxed at Christmas.
Meetings “with close family or friends” should be possible from the 23rd of December, up to a maximum of 10 people. Children aged 14 and under will not be included in this calculation. According to information, the exemption should apply “at most” until January 1.
Limiting the maximum number of visitors to shopping malls
There will be a maximum number of visitors to the malls. The chancellor and prime ministers agreed on a “20 square meters” per customer per 800 sq m rule rather than the previously proposed 25 square meters per customer prior to today’s meeting, which would lead to a reduction in the number of visitors. In smaller stores, the general rule of 10 square meters per customer will still apply.
Fireworks are forbidden in busy streets and squares!
This year, fireworks will be banned on busy streets and squares to minimise crowds. According to BILD, there will be no general ban on the sale of fireworks! Saxony will urge its citizens and municipalities to exercise extreme caution in keeping the minimum distances during New Year’s fireworks.
