Kenya removes lockdown measures imposed on the 6th of June and rules that maintain social restrictions are still in place to curb new infections. this was announced by The president of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta.
The nation’s leader has however set other rules that maintain social restrictions in the aim to still curb new infections while Kenya removes lockdown measures.
It is important to take note that should the country plunge into a sudden spike in number of cases,the president added that the government will be forced to reintroduce the lockdown.
Mr. Kenyatta recognised the number of domestic violence cases in the country and set the National Crime Research Centre to probe such cases. The centre will be dealing with:
- Escalation of cases in gender based violence
- The worrying trend of cases where the girl-child has been dis-empowered and
- Violation of children’s rights

He addressed the country today on the 6th of July 2020. Here is a summary of what’s to change or stay the same in Kenya:
- Ceasation of movement in an out of Nairobi that is in place will lapse tomorrow, 7th July 2020
- Curfew extended for a further 30 days
- Kenyans are called upon to exercise cautious optimism and avoid reckless abandon.
- In the next 21 days the Government of Kenya shall observe patterns of interaction. If there will be a spike in the trend of infections, the country will return to lockdown at zero option
- How the country proceeds from here shall be determined by the behaviour of each one of us individually. We are called upon to be our brothers and sisters keeper
- Kenyans are urged to avoid non-essential upcountry travel and also maintain social distancing, washing hands, sanitising and be cautious when interacting with the elderly and those with depressed immune systems
- A maximum of 100 people allowed in places or worship at any given time. Worship services to last for not more than one hour. This will be done in line with strict conformity with all the applicable guidelines and protocols. Sunday school and Madrassa remain closed.
- Public Service Vehicles moving in and out of areas which were previously under cessation will require mandatory certification from Ministry of Health in consultation with the Ministry or Transport.
- Local flights to resume on 15th July, 2020 in strict conformity with guidelines and protocols issued by Ministry of Health.
- International travel in and out of the country to resume on 1st August, 2020 strict conformity to guidelines and protocols issued by Ministry of Health.
- Restrictions on political gatherings and any other gathering of that nature extended by another 30 days
- Restrictions on wedding and funeral attendance extended for a further 30 days
The president challenged the youth to embrace new methods of conducting business and business models as the times have changed an old methods of conducting business are now being phased out.
The president concluded on the note that, ” a positive nation is a forward nation and that we must all endeavour to return the river to it’s course.”
