A regional train (RE3) traveling from Saarbrücken to Frankfurt derailed after hitting a large boulder on the tracks near Namborn. The accident happened when a landslide blocked the tracks. Authorities reported that the train driver did not brake in time and collided with the boulder, which was about one meter wide, causing the train to derail. Nearly 200 passengers were on board during the incident.

As a result of the accident, the train driver sustained minor injuries, while all other passengers were unharmed. The federal police in Saarbrücken confirmed that all passengers were safely evacuated and reached their destination on a replacement train. The evacuation was completed quickly and without any issues.

Rescue Teams Respond to Train Derailment

Around 150 people, including police officers, firefighters, and paramedics from the Red Cross and Malteser, were sent to the scene of the accident. In addition to evacuating the passengers, a shelter and support station were set up at Türkismühle station, where travellers received food and medical assistance. Meanwhile, the federal police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the accident.
