According to the ADAC, roads will be especially busy in the afternoons from Friday to Sunday. The automobile club expects Friday to be the most crowded day.
Traffic Jams in Germany Expected on September 6-8: Drivers to Encounter Delays on These Routes
The risk of traffic jams has increased now that the ban on heavy goods vehicles (Saturdays from 7:00 to 20:00) during the travel season has ended, as it only applies from July 1 to August 31. This means more trucks are back on the roads.

Additionally, numerous motorway construction sites, along with late holidaymakers and weekend travellers, are contributing to the heavier traffic. The motor club predicts the worst traffic jams in both directions on the following routes:
- A1 Lübeck – Hamburg – Bremen
- A3 Passau – Nuremberg – Frankfurt
- A5 Basel – Karlsruhe
- A7 Flensburg – Hamburg
- A7 Hanover – Hamburg and Füssen/Reutte – Ulm – Würzburg
- A8 Salzburg – Munich – Stuttgart
- A9 Munich – Nuremberg
- A81 Singen – Stuttgart
- A93 Kufstein – Inntal triangle
- A95/B2 Munich – Garmisch-Partenkirchen
- A99 Munich Ring Road
- Motorways to and from the North and Baltic Seas
Reschen Route: Popular Brenner Pass Closed
Increased traffic is also expected in neighboring countries. In Austria, the holidays are ending in six federal states, which will add to the congestion. The Reschen Pass route, a popular alternative to the Brenner Pass, has been closed since September 2. A rock gallery is being built on the B180 Reschen main road between Pfunds and Nauders to enhance safety. The road will be closed from Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., until September 27. Additionally, from October 8 to December 20, the crossing will be completely closed.
