The Nigerian Embassy in Berlin, Germany issues new instructions on passport collections dates.

The Nigerian Embassy in Berlin, Germany asked Nigerians in the country to kindly collect their overdue international passports and also issued new passport collection dates.

The embassy stated that from May 1st, it would only be issuing out passports on Fridays only to curb the backlog.

This was shared as a public notice on their tweeter page: ‘The Embassy wishes to inform Nigerians that captured for Passport between September 2021 and January 2022, to proceed to the Embassy to pick up their Passport. Kindly note that from 1st May 2022, Fridays ONLY, will be for Passport Collection.’

The Nigerian Embassy in Berlin told members of the Nigerian community in Germany that there is an accumulation of uncollected international passports and so Nigerians whose data were captured between September 2021 and January 2022 need to pick up their passports.

It is assumed that the reason that most Nigerians are not picking up their passports is because they are most likely German citizens and hence carry German passports. They are still able to travel and get around without necessarily using their Nigerian passports, a source told Thewhistler.ng.

The embassy also recently issued new instructions on passport appointment strictly emphasising on the message that the Nigerian community in Germany should remember that passport appointments are free and no one should be paying for them but also that those who go through such an experience should report.
