Important warning for drivers. Traffic fines in Germany. The upcoming autumn rains and winter weather can make driving tough. Renowned mechanic Scotty Kilmer, trusted by thousands of drivers worldwide, has issued a strong warning to used car owners. In his latest videos, Kilmer highlights the dangers of worn tire tread, urging everyone to check this crucial part of their vehicle. His advice could be lifesaving.

Tires with worn treads might seem okay in dry weather, but they become dangerous when it rains. Without enough tread, tires struggle to grip wet surfaces, increasing the risk of aquaplaning, where the car loses traction. This can lead to serious accidents. Scotty Kilmer compares it to car racing—tires without treads work well in dry conditions but can fail completely in the wet.

Correct tread depth

That’s why it’s important to regularly check your tire tread. Scotty Kilmer recommends a simple coin test—if the tread doesn’t cover the right part of the coin, it’s time to get new tires. In Poland, a 5 groszy coin is commonly used for this check. If the tread reaches the “Rzeczpospolita Polska” inscription, your tires are still safe. However, experts suggest replacing tires if the tread depth is below 3 mm, even though the legal minimum is 1.6 mm.
