Kenya’s former president Mwai Kibaki dies aged 90 as confirmed by president Uhuru Kenyatta on 22nd April 2022.
Announcing Mr. Kibaki’s death, President Kenyatta said that the nation shall observe a period of national mourning from today till the day of his interment, the state shall also accord President Kibaki with a state funeral with full military honors and protocols being rendered and observed, the flag of the Republic of Kenya will be flown at half-mast at State House, all Diplomatic Missions, public buildings, all military bases posts, and stations, on all Naval Vessels and elsewhere throughout the entire territory of the Republic of Kenya.
The President, Deputy President, the Chief-Justice, Cabinet Secretaries, the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Speaker of the Senate, Kenya’s Diplomats abroad, and whomsoever else authorized by law should not fly their flags from today until the sunset of his interment.
He described Mr Kibaki as one who lived a dedicated life of public service. A leader who strove so hard and accomplished so much for this country and a notable father figure who served with commitment and an unbending will to improve the lives of people.
President Uhuru further described him as a quintessential patriot whose legacy of civic responsibility shall continue to inspire generations of Kenyans.

The late Emilio Stanley Mwai Kibaki known as Mwai Kibaki was born on November 15, 1931, in Othaya, Nyeri. He was the third president of Kenya. He served two terms from 2002 – to 2013. His re-election to his second term was disputed by his then opponent Raila Odinga. The country went into chaos which led to the 2007-2008 post-election violence that led to the death of 1200 people

The late Kibaki was an eloquent debater whose wit and charm won time again and again. He was also a man of integrity and one known for building consensus in the country. He was also the one who moved the motion that Kenya be a single-party state in 1982.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has declared a mourning period until Mr. Kibaki’s burial. The late president had 4 children.
