COVID-19 in Germany: RKI reports 23,449 new infections

The Robert Koch Institute reports 23,449 new cases – the infections of COVID-19 in Germany remain at a high level. Health Minister Spahn speaks out in favour of stricter restrictions in hotspots, which are “absolutely” necessary.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reports 23,449 new infections within 24 hours. That’s about 640 more than a week ago. The number of infections thus remains at a high level despite the partial lockdown. 432 other people died of or with the virus. This increased the number of deaths to 18,034.

Coronavirus in Germany: 487 deaths in the last 24 hours

In total, more than 1.13 million people in Germany have been proven to be infected with the corona virus. According to the RKI, around 820,600 people are considered recovered from COVID-19 in Germany. 

The seven-day incidence was hardly changed at 134.9 per 100,000 population. The federal and state governments are striving to push the value back below the threshold of 50.
