Corona effects leads Berlin to assist churches and mosques financially. How do I apply

Due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on the economy and people’s lives, the federal state of Berlin has decided to offer support to religious groups like churches and mosques.

Many churches rely on donations from members of the flock and since the pandemic hit this has seen a general reduce.

Religious communities could apply for funding for their rent, incidental rental and personnel costs as well as for corona related material expenses such as test kits and even spaces that allow for social distancing.

The senate has set no limit to how much can be applied for but the disclaimer is that it has to be based on the actual financial loss and suffered as a result of the pandemic.

Senator for Culture Klaus Lederer emphasised the importance of supporting these communities for the social work they do unnoticed. “For example, they help with homework, offer language courses, are committed to integration, are responsible for educational work – thus shaping the dialogue between the religions,” Dr Lederer said.

Here are the conditions for funding for the church and mosque:

  • Has to have headquarters in the state of Berlin
  • Has to be active in social integration work
  • Funding is available for rent, incidental rental and personnel cost, current material resources and corona-related material expenses.

Applications must be made plausible by means of financial plan/ costs and books expenditure to prove credibility. The deadline for such an application is the 6th of November.
