According to police, the explosion took place between Rudolfplatz and Ehrenstrasse. Further details are not yet available, and BILD reports that authorities are asking people to avoid the area.
WDR adds that a bomb detonated near the Vanity nightclub just after 6:00 AM, causing ceiling panels to collapse and windows to shatter. A surveillance video shows a man lighting the explosive device.
