To curb the spread of coronavirus, masks to cover the mouth and nose are to become mandatory in Munich, authorities in the Bavarian capital have decided.
The rule to make masks mandatory in Munich will be applicable in certain public places and streets in the city centre. The decision made on Monday at a meeting with the city’s crisis management team, will apply from Thursday onwards and will affect areas including Marienplatz and Viktualienmarkt, Thelocal.de reported.
The other measures to be enforced to curb the spread of coronavirus in Munich include banning meetings of more than five people in public spaces.
Announcing the measures, Mayor Dieter Reiter said the rule will not be applicable to
meetings of two households, which together comprise more people, or close relatives.

A maximum of 25 people will be allowed in indoor spaces and 50 people for meetings outdoors. The rule will be applicable to private celebrations such as birthdays, weddings or even funerals.
The new restriction is not applicable to regular events such as theatre or concerts.
“We must do everything we can to avoid crowds, and this applies in particular to celebrations,” said Reiter.
German armed forces will be deployed in the future to support the city’s health department, State premier Markus Söder said. “We will ask the Bundeswehr to provide 100 people to improve tracking,” Thelocal.de reported quoted him to have said.
The new coronavirus cases in Munich have reached 55.6 per 100,000 inhabitants in one week.
