Germany: Home tests for COVID-19 will be in the dm drugstore chain from March 9

Germany: Home tests for Covid-19 will be available for purchase in the stores of the dm drugstore chain from March 9. How much will they cost? “As cheap as possible,” the company said.

The Federal Institute for Medicines and Medical Devices (BfArM) Germany last week issued special approvals for three instant home tests for COVID-19.

From March 9, in the stores of the dm drugstore chain, quick tests for COVID-19 for self-use will be available. However, this depends on the manufacturer’s compliance with the supply obligations.

As the company pointed out, the tests will be offered “as cheap as possible”. Their specific price has not been given so far.

Initially, the number of home covid-19 tests per person will be limited. However, as soon as there are more shipments and further approved tests, the restrictions will be lifted again.

The German authorities hope that, once home testing is allowed, it will be possible to accelerate the lifting of certain restrictions, such as the reopening of schools. Self-tests are supposed to give almost immediate results, but on the other hand, they are not as effective as diagnostics based on PCR tests.
