Germany: CDU party politician struck dead by lightning during garden party

Tragedy occurred on Saturday evening in Höhnstedt, Germany, as a group of friends had a barbecue in the garden. In the evening as the party was still going on, a violent storm came. The 44-year-old politician under the CDU part was struck by lightning when he was under a high voltage pole.  The man is a member of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s party.

As the Die Welt daily reported, this pole is made to look like wood and therefore does not stand out from other trees in the garden. The man might have allegedly  stood under a pillar to urinate when lightning struck him down leading to his untimely death. He died on the spot as a result of the paralysis. Although the probability of a lightning strike is low, the CDU politician is not the only victim who suffered this type of accident last weekend: two people in Upper Franconia were seriously injured in a storm

On Sunday evening, a 22-year-old woman and her 29-year-old partner were in Röhrensee, Bayreuth, when a storm broke out. According to police, the woman suffered severe burn injuries due to lightning. The man accompanying her was only slightly injured. They were both taken to hospital.
