Germany: Who will have to pay for COVID tests from October?

Germany: The federal government wants to limit access to free citizenship covid tests as much as possible. We know who will be able to continue using them for free.

Who will not pay for tests from October 2021?

The federal government has specified its plan to end free citizenship tests in Germany from mid-October 2021 . According to the draft of the new law, only those who, for health reasons, cannot be vaccinated against the coronavirus , such as those suffering from autoimmune diseases or transplant recipients , will be able to do tests for free, the  Business Insider magazine reported. Free tests will also not be offered to people who are vaccinated.

There is to be a separate transitional rule for children between 12 and 17 years of age.

Germany, Coronavirus testing prices to increase significantly

It is likely that the free tests will be available in facilities where there is close contact with people at high risk of coronavirus infection, such as health and care facilities.

How much will the tests cost from October?

For people who are not vaccinated, testing can be quite expensive. It is estimated that due to the abolition of free coronavirus tests in Germany, their prices will increase significantly and may range from 10 to 15 euros, although it is possible that their cost will be 20 euros.
