Coronavirus threatens Nigerian entertainment industry. Many Nigerian celebrities who attended the 2020 Africa Movie Viewers’ Choice (AMVCA) have gone into self-isolation following the announcement that they might have come in contact with a person who tested positive for coronavirus.
Yesterday Lagos State Government advised all the participants and attendees of the just-concluded event to observe strict self-isolation.

The Commissioner for Health in Lagos State, Professor Akin Abayomi, said in a Tweet that the participants may have come in contact with one of the confirmed coronavirus cases in Lagos at the hotel where the event held on 14th March 2020.
This year’s AMVCA was held at Eko Hotels and Suites on Victoria Island in Lagos. It was attended by many stars and key players in Nigeria’s creative and movie sector in attendance.
Banky W and his wife Adesuwa Etomi, 2019 Big Brother Naija winner Mercy Eke have announced that they are already on self-isolation. “Mrs W and were already self-isolating since last week.. and here’s the thing… everyone else who attended the AMVCA’s should already have been doing the same,” Banky W wrote on Twitter.
He added: “This threat is real. Don’t wait until you know an infected person before you take it seriously. Please.”
Actress Etomi, Banky’s wife also echoed the same message: “To all of us who attended the AMVCA – please let’s stay indoors. I’m begging you. Let’s be responsible.”

Another celebrity who has confirmed being on self-quarantine is Big Brother Naija’s Mercy Eke. “Already taking this seriously, our health is wealth🙏 let’s all do our best to save our country,” Eke said.

The host of the event Ebuka Obi-Uchendu has also confirmed that the is on self isolation: “I just hope this isn’t 10 days too late… But I and a number of people I know have been self isolating since that day. Hopefully many others have as well,” he posted on Twitter.
