Why Afrika Festival Tübingen 2022 was cancelled at the last minute

Why Afrika Festival Tübingen 2022 was cancelled at the last minute.

African Festivals in Germany. Afrika Festival Tübingen. The Afrika Festival Tübingen scheduled to take place from 4th to 7th August 2022 has been called off.

Why the Afrika Festival Tübingen was cancelled?

Africa We Want e.V., the organiser of the event, said they had been forced to cancel the festival due to the last-minute unfavourable conditions imposed by the department of law and order at the city of Tübingen.

The Afrika Festival Tübingen, which is one the biggest African festivals in Germany, normally attracts several thousands of visitors every day. We wrote about it here: Why the fantastic and successful Afrika Festival Tübingen is a perfect strategy for integration of immigrants

However, this time, just a few days before the festival kicks off, the local authorities told the festival organisers that a maximum of 500 people would be allowed at the festival venue. Considering that the organising team, traders, exhibitors, and performers already exceed 300, allowing only 200 visitors at the festival would not be cost effective.

Dr Susan Tatah, the Founder of Afrika Festival Tübingen and President of Africa We Want e.V., said they were considering moving the festival to another location in the near future. More details will be revealed in the coming days.
