African news. Nigerian athlete Tobi Amusan breaks world record. Nigerian athlete Tobi Amusan made history when she won the 100m hurdles gold at the World Athletic Championships in Oregon,US. This is Nigeria’s first gold medal in this competition.
The 25-year-old broke the semifinal hear with a time of 12.12 seconds, she even made a faster for the final. Unfortunately, this mark of 12.06 seconds didn’t count for the record books because the wind speed was over the legal limit.
Amusan’s new time beats the long-standing record of USA’s Kendra Harrison, who finished 12.20s in London in 2016. In the final, she beat Jamaica’s Britany Anderson, who clocked 12.23s and Camacho Quin of Pueto Rico, who finished third.

Who is Tobi Amusan?
Oluwatobiloba Ayomide “Tobi” Amusan (born 23 April 1997) is a Nigerian track and field athlete who specialises in the 100 metres hurdles and also competes as a sprinter.
Amusan won the 2022 World Athletics Championships in the 100 metres hurdles, setting a new world record of 12.12 seconds in the semifinal, followed up by a 12.06 seconds record in the final to take the gold medal.
She was the 2018 Commonwealth and 2018 African champion and is also a two-time African Games champion in the event. She won the Diamond League Trophy in Zurich in 2021 in the 100m hurdles.
