African footballers. Nigerian-German player Moritz Jenz has revealed why he chose to play for Germany, rejecting Nigeria, and rules out any chances of representing Nigeria as a Super Eagle.
Why did Moritz Jenz reject Nigeria’s Super Eagles to play for Germany?
Jenz is is a German professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Scottish Premiership club Celtic, on loan from Ligue 1 club, Lorient where two other Nigerians, Terem Moffi and Innocent Bonke, play for.
The 23-year-old was born in Berlin to a Nigerian-born father from Bremen and a German mother and is eligible to play for Super Eagles and Germany.
Moritz Jenz said that he qualified to play for both Germany and Nigerian but he would prefer Germany because that was where he grew up.
“It’s a great country to play for and hopefully one day I can make a couple of appearances, then maybe a couple more and then, who knows, perhaps play in a World Cup or Euros.”
