African footballers. Ghanaian-German footballer Aaron Opoku, has been handed a five game suspension by the German Football Association after receiving a red card in the game against Darmstadt last Friday.
The Ghanaian had just come off the bench in the second half of the game when Darmstadt’s Fabian Holland, in a desperate attempt to break up the counter by Hamburg, grabbed Opoku’s shorts preventing him from joining the attack.
Opoku aggressively reacted to the tackle by Fabian Holland by kicking him in the stomach.
According to a statement released by the DFB, the Hamburg forward will miss the next five games in the Bundesliga.
“The sports tribunal of the German Football Association (DFB) has banned Aaron Opoku from the second division club Hamburger SV from five championship games in the professional leagues after the DFB control committee had brought charges for assault against an opponent after he had previously committed an anti-sports act,” wrote the DFB
Opoku will miss the games against Nurnberg, Karlsruher, Holstein Kiel, Fortuna Dusseldorf and Hanover 96.
