#ENDSARS, DJ Switch to international community: investigate and prosecute perpetrators of Lekki toll gate massacre in Lagos

#ENDSARS: Nigerian DJ Obianuju Catherine Udeh popularly known as DJ Switch has urged the international community to investigate and prosecute the perpetrators of the killings at Lekki toll gate in Lagos on 20th October 2020 in crimes of police brutality.

Over the weekend DJ Switch released a video on Instagram while speaking to ICC prosecutors, United Nations representatives, Amnesty International, Allamin Foundation for Peace and Development.

DJ Switch who is a major eyewitness of the Lekki Massacre, urged the international community to take necessary and swift actions to ensure justice is served to the Nigerian people.

“Today makes it two months since the Lekki Massacre. No answers, no charges, no arrest, a Government quick to impose laws that further enslaves Nigerians rather than elevate us. I am not wasting my gift by staying silent and neither should you,” DJ Switch said.

The Nigerian DJ went on to say: “Nigeria is home to over 200 million brothers and sisters that are beautifully diverse in tribe and faith, but we lack education, a functional health system, electricity, jobs and security. The basic things that any parent, guardian and in this case a leader should provide so that we can achieve our ambitions, instead these basic things have been weaponized by our leaders and are used against us, used to lure us to do their biddings, used to oppress us, keep us too hungry to be angry, used to kill us.”

She praised the Nigerians who took part in the #ENDSARS protests. “It was indeed hopeful to see the new generation of Nigerians stand up for Nigeria,” adding that “if we don’t act, this new generation will be haunted like myself, wiped out or succumb to the will of a dying Generation.”

DJ Switch described SARS as “a special Anti-robbery Squad which the Government rebranded to SWAT after disbanding the said SARS over three times in one year.”

She added: “SARS have a track record of more daylight robbery than actual robbers. They murder more innocent Citizens than murderers in the Society. More rape than the public is even aware of. They constantly harass Nigerians because of their hair style, dress style and the kind of cars they drive and when we speak up, they beat us up, lock us up or kill us all together”.

DJ Switch accused the Nigerian Government of brutality saying it “will rather silent and kill its citizens than be concerned about their cries.”

“A Government that hides COVID-19 palliatives that were donated rather than give to the people, a President that will spend quality time with his cattle rather than address the citizens. Same Government that chose to inject in rogue elements into peaceful protests rather than protect its people but prefers to cuddle terrorists, same government that froze the account of protesters and seized their passports but cannot seem to trace the account that sponsors terrorism in the country.”

Narrating what she witnessed during the Lekki massacre, DJ Switch said: “It is said in the Constitution that the security and welfare of the Nigerian people is the primary purpose of the Government but on the 20th October 2020, the Nigerian Army sanctioned by the Government stormed the Lekki toll gate, no warning, no dialogue, just guns blazing, shooting into a crowd of Nigerians holding and waving the Nigerian flag. The Commander of the 65 Battalion Salisu Bello claimed we were a threat to them that’s why they shot at us with live Ammunitions”.

“The Army also stopped doctors from coming to treat the injured protesters. We had counted 15 bodies at that time. The Nigerian Authorities under the poor, corrupt and misguided leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari down to his cohorts, Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu, General Tukur Buratai, Brigadier Taiwo, F.O Omata, Lai Mohammed and many more, have all tried severally to deny these events while in the same breadth contradicting themselves,” she added.

DJ Switch who is now seen as a National treasure has been applauded by the likes of Genevieve Nnaji, Rita Dominic and other Nigerian celebrities for her bravery.
