African news. Kenyan news anchor Catherine Kasavuli dies aged 60. The news of one of Kenya’s greatest news anchors Catherine Kasavuli has shocked many and left others deeply saddened with the news of her death.
The veteran newscaster died after battling cervical cancer, confirmed KBC acting MD Samuel Maina. She had earlier made a plea to Kenyans to assist her with her medical bills garnering a lot of support.
Several media personalities and the President, and his wife, shared some kind words about the TV legend:
Kenya’s president William Ruto said: It is with great sorrow that I join Kenyans in mourning the passing of Catherine Kasavuli who died Thursday night at 60, after a long brave fight with cancer. Catherine was a cheerful, articulate and intelligent news anchor who took to television with unprecedented flair.
“Catherine Kasavuli was a woman of great distinction and accomplishment. Throughout her career, she consistently demonstrated a strong work ethic, poise, and professionalism. Even if you did not enjoy the news, you enjoyed watching how gracefully she delivered it…” said Kenya’s First Lady Rachel Ruto.

Gideon K. Moi said, We convey our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the late Catherine Kasavuli who passed earlier today at the Kenyatta National Hospital. Kasavuli was a reflection of analytical and professional journalism, demonstrated through her stellar career in the newsroom.

Catherine Kasavuli was the first Kenyan female news anchor in the country and has previously worked in other leading television stations including The KBC, Citizen Television and KTN.
Azimio la Umoja One Kenya leader Raila Odinga described Kasavuli as a trailblazer who illuminated screens with her captivating presence.
“Following the loss of legendary broadcast journalist Catherine Kasavuli, Mama Ida and I extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues,” Odinga said.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi said: “Catherine was a person who bonded with generations of Kenyans and inspired many budding news persons in her time as a news anchor working for various stations.”
