The AFRONEWS -Ortel African Community in Germany Awards celebrate and recognise the outstanding achievements of Africans in different fields in Germany. They are a way of appreciating and encouraging Africans who have excelled in different fields and are making a positive contribution to the German society.
The Awards also recognise the good work done by African organisations/associations and businesses to promote a positive image of Africa and Africans, facilitate integration of Africans in Germany, promote business opportunities and international cooperation between Germany and African countries, and above all, make Germany and the world a better place for all of us.

Announcing the call for nominations, Stephen Ogongo, the editor of AFRONEWS said: “The African Community in Germany Awards are a true a celebration of everyday heroes in our community who are most often ignored.”
He appealed to all to join hands in celebrating “these ordinary but great Africans in Germany.”
The first edition of the African Community in Germany Awards in 2021
The first edition of the African Community in Germany Awards held on 23rd October 2021 in Frankfurt was a huge success and an historic event. “We were humbled by the countless positive remarks received during and after the Awards Gala Night,” Mr Ogongo said. “We’ve been deeply touched by the joy and sense of pride the African Community in Germany Awards 2021 brought to the nominees and the winners. Since we only had six categories for nominations last year, many people felt excluded. We have therefore decided to create a wide range of categories in order recognise and celebrate many achievers, role models and influential people from our communities.”
The second of edition of the African Community in Germany Awards comprises of 28 distinctive categories for nominations and voting.

Nomination Timeline
The nomination period opens on Monday 14th February 2022.
DEADLINE: Nomination forms must be submitted online using the form below (at the end of this article) by Monday, 30th May 2022. No entries received after this date will be considered.
Nomination Criteria
✅ All nominees must be of African descent and based in Germany. The only exception to this rule is the nominees for The Best African Fashion Designer in Europe Award – the only category open to Africans in all European countries and not limited to only Africans in Germany.
✅ Nominations are free and there is no limit to the number of nominations that one person or organisation can make.
✅ Self-nominations are allowed. You can therefore nominate yourself, your business, your association, etc…
✅ When a nomination is being provided for another person or people, organisations, etc., the nominator must warrant to Afronews that they have gained the consent of those nominated to put their names and contact details forward to Afronews for the sole purpose of the Awards.
✅ For each nominee, please use a separate nomination form.
✅ People making nominations must provide full details of the nominees, their activities, achievements, contributions and photos. The Awards Committee will decide on whether to accept nominations or not depending on the information submitted on the nomination forms.
✅ Not all the Awards announced will be awarded if the Awards Committee considers that the criteria have not been met, or if there are no many qualified nominations in a given category.
✅ Nominators may be asked to provide additional evidence or materials after submission.
✅ Nominators are strongly encouraged to send the photos of the nominees to: editor@afronews.de
✅ Official Award nominees will be notified by email on or before Monday, 20th June 2022.
✅ Public voting online for the official Award nominees will be open on Monday, 27th June 2022. DEADLINE: The closing date for voting online is 17:00 on Monday, 12th September 2022.
✅ Winners will be announced and recognized at the Awards Gala Night Event on 22nd October 2022.
