South African entrepreneur based in the US, Elon Musk, is now the world’s richest man and, the new owner of Twitter after he purchased it for $44bn (approximately 41 bn euros).

Musk made the socking bid less than two weeks ago saying Twitter had “tremendous potential” that he would be able to unlock.

The billionaire also called for a series of changes from relaxing its content restrictions to eradicating fake accounts. According to BBC, the firm initially rebuffed Mr Musk’s bid, but it will now ask shareholders to vote to approve the deal.

Forbes magazine named Mr Musk the world’s richest person with an estimated net-worth of $273.6bn mostly due to his shareholding in electric vehicle maker Tesla which he runs. He is also the owner to aerospace firm SpaceX.

Musk said, “Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated.”
