Mario Balotelli returns to Italy after a three year exile

Italy boss Roberto Mancini has called 35 players to gather together on 26 and 27 January, with the chance to impress and be part of the Italy squad ahead of their crucial World Cup playoff against North Macedonia in March. Balotelli last played for Italy in 2018 and this could be a chance for him to write his history once more. He is currently playing for Adana Demirspor in Turkey and has impressed the Super Lig side this season.

Where was Mario Balotelli and why is he back to Italy?

Mario Balotelli is an Italian professional footballer who plays as a striker. Balotelli played for several international clubs but his disciplinary issues were always in the way of his career. He first played for Inter Milan in 2007 and under the management of Roberto Mancini. When Mancini left the club, Balotelli had a strained relationship with the new manager Mourinho who later suspended him from Inter Milan.

Mancini had a soft spot for Balotelli, he took him to Manchester City and decided to give him a chance. Sadly Balotelli’s off-field activities continued being an issue even though he helped the team in winning the premier league in 2012.

Popularly known after playing with a jersey “why always me “, the stubborn striker has burnt a lot of bridges but since he is one of the best attackers Italy has ever had, Italy couldn’t ignore him even just as part of the squad as they prepare for World Cup.
