Prince William faces public backlash for saying Africa’s population growth is endangering wildlife

British royalty Prince William has faced public backlash after blaming Africa’s population for endangering wildlife, again.

Some have said that the prince’s position is ‘shallow’ without any historical facts and professional consideration.

The Duke was speaking during the Tusk Conservation awards held London on Tuesday where he said, ”Africa remains on the frontline of conservation, playing host to the most awe-inspiring diversity of flora and fauna.” adding that, “the increasing pressure on Africa’s wildlife and wild spaces as a result of human population presents a huge challenge for conservationists, as it does the world over,”- EyeGambia.

Prince William had in the past made the same comment at the 2017 Tusk Ball where he had said that in this lifetime humans have seen global wildlife populations decline by over half and that Africa’s rapidly growing human population is predicted to more than double by 2050 which will be staggering increase of three and a half million people per month.

He added that this increase puts wildlife and habitat under enormous pressure.

Prince William’s declaration that Africa’s population puts wildlife under pressure has been heavily criticised and this is in effect to the fact that the United Kingdom is one of the most nature-scarce countries in the world.

Adams Armstrong, a social scientist as he refers to himself on Twitter, wrote in response that it would be helpful if Prince William paid attention to history then he’d realise that the greatest losses of wildlife in Africa occurred in the early 1900s when Europeans arrived with guns and hunted across the continent.

”It would be helpful if Prince William paid attention in history. By far the greatest losses of wildlife in Africa occurred in the early 1900s when Europeans arrived with guns and hunted across the continent. To blame African civilians is to totally misunderstand African history.”

The arrival of the white man led to the most detriment in wildlife population.

A twitter user challenged the stance saying, ‘Eco fascism strikes again. Over population is a myth. The problem is some people use more resources than they need, can you guess one person who uses more resources than they need?’
