At least eight people have been killed and several others injured at stampede at the Astroworld Festival in Houston, Texas, the fire chief of the city of Houston has confirmed.
The incident occurred on Friday while rapper Travis Scott, who created and launched the event in 2018, was performing.
“We had at least eight confirmed fatalities tonight and scores of individuals that were injured,” Houston fire chief Samuel Pena said. He added that the causes of death were yet to be determined.
Houston Police Executive Assistant Chief Larry Satterwhite, said: “It happened all at once. It seemed like it just happened … over the course of just a few minutes.”
“Suddenly we had several people down on the ground, experiencing some type of cardiac arrest or some type of medical episode,” he added.
