Nigerian Community Bayern e.V has been nominated for the Best African Association in Germany Award (2021) at the AFRONEWS – Ortel Mobile African Community in Germany Awards (2021).
Sponsored by Ortel Mobile, Germany’s leading prepaid sim cards provider for people with a migration background, the AFRONEWS – Ortel Mobile African Community in Germany Awards celebrate and recognise the outstanding achievements of Africans in different fields in Germany.
DETAILS OF THE NOMINEE:
The Nigerian Community Bayern Germany e.V. (eingetragener Verein), also known as NCBG e.V., was officially registered on 6th July 2000 at the Court of law (Amtsgericht – Registergericht) in Munich.
Prior to this date, in the early 70s till late 90s, it was known as the Nigerian Student Union Munich (NSUM), which metamorphosized into the present-day Nigerian Community Bayern.
The association was established to promote patriotic spirit and unity among the people of Nigerian origin living in the free state of Bavaria and across Germany. One of its objectives is to render support, charity, and humanitarian services to Nigerians, desiring individuals, organisations, or groups on matters relating to social, economic, legal, and political well-being in Germany.
The Nigerian Community Bayern Germany (NCBG) e.V. offers training and lessons to families and children of the Nigerian diaspora, as part of its projects aimed at educating young Nigerians in the Diaspora on the Nigerian cultures and local languages. The community offers language classes in Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa.
INTELLECTUAL ENGAGEMENTS
The association constantly organises and hosts high-level events that engage members taking advantage of their network of professionals, scholars, philanthropists and experts who give lectures on pertinent issues regarding personal developments of members both in Germany and beyond.
SOCIAL INCLUSIVENESS
The Nigerian Community Bayern Germany e.V. has a broad group of members from different walks of life, social class and ethnic backgrounds which makes it different from many associations that focus on the tribes, ethnic groups, students etc. This association integrates scholars, professionals, entrepreneurs, asylum seekers etc. without segregating any social class.
GENDER INCLUSIVENESS
Another impressive point about this association is the special consideration for the female gender to be part of the executive.
The Nigerian Community Bayern Germany e.V. maintains an in-house policy of making sure the team is mixed with both genders. At least 2 ladies of both young and middle-aged are currently on the Exco.
MEMBERS’ SUPPORT
From having legal professionals, health experts to scholars who are the first point of contacts for members with personal issues, members benefit by first reaching out to these professionals within the association to seek advice before taking the next line of action. The association holds regular lectures online where medical or legal experts talk on important health and legal issue affecting Nigerians in the diaspora regular
