Germany, Oktoberfest beer festival 2021 cancelled due to coronavirus

Oktoberfest 2021: Germany’s famous Oktoberfest Beer Festival has been cancelled gain due to the coronavirus pandemic for the second consecutive year. The risk it poses is far too high.

Bavarian Premier Markus Soeder and Munich Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter agreed at a meeting on Monday to cancel the event, officials told dpa.

This is a decision that was made last year also due to the coronavirus pandemic that saw that gathering and groups were not encouraged. We wrote about it <<here>>.

“For me personally, this is not an easy decision either,” Reiter said. (read more below).

He said it was “a great pity” for the millions of fans of the Wiesn, as it is known locally in the southern German city. (read more below).

Reiter warned that cancelling Oktoberfest for the second year in a row would have “existential implications” for the people who worked there.

The Oktoberfest is not just a Bavarian festival, but a global event, Soeder said recently. About 6 million people have attended the beer drinking festival in previous years.

The Oktoberfest 2021 event was still one that many had plans of attending despite the current coronavirus crisis.
