Coronavirus vaccine: The Moderna vaccine has been suspended in Sweden and Denmark among young people due to reports of rare effects such as myocarditis and pericarditis are increasing.
Sweden declared that it would ban it’s use for those born from the year 1991 and onward because of the risk of the possible rare side effects such as myocarditis.
‘The Swedish Public Health Agency has decided to suspend the use of Moderna’s Spikevax vaccine for all those born after 1991 for precautionary reasons,” said a statement.
“There are increasing reports of side effects such as myocarditis and pericarditis. However – it is specified – the risk of being affected by these side effects is very low”. The health agency said it recommended the administration of Pfizer / BioNtech’s Comirnaty * vaccine instead – Adnkronos.
About 81,000 people who had already received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine and are due for the second will receive a different vaccine. This will either b the Pfizer vaccine or BioNtech vaccine.
Denmark made the decision to suspend the administration of Moderna for people under the age of 18 after there were reports of the rare side effects experienced by the youth in Sweden.
