Yankuba Minteh shines at Brighton ahead of debut after leaving Newcastle United

Yankuba Minteh spent just one year with Newcastle United before being sold in June for a €29 million profit to help the club meet the Premier League’s financial rules. Brighton bought Minteh for €38 million, and he impressed during his first pre-season with the team.

The teenager scored three goals for the Seagulls during pre-season, including one in their final game against Villareal. He’s now aiming to make his Premier League debut on Saturday when Hurzeler’s team travels to face Everton at Goodison Park. This game will also be Hurzeler’s first Premier League match as a manager, and he has praised Minteh’s performances over the summer: “Let’s wait for the Premier League to start,” Hurzeler said.

“I have a clear motto. When you always give 100 percent in training, press hard, and try to improve every day, you’ll perform like this in matches. He’s a great example of that. I hope he can show the same performance in the Premier League.”

Although Minteh never played for Newcastle, he had a strong season at Feyenoord last year, helping them finish second in the Eredivisie and win the KNVB Cup. He also made his Champions League debut during his time with the Dutch club.

Who is Yankuba Minteh

Yankuba Minteh is a young Gambian professional footballer, primarily playing as a winger. He first gained attention while playing in the Danish Superliga for Odense Boldklub (OB). His performances in Denmark attracted interest from larger European clubs, leading to his transfer to Newcastle United in 2023.

Although Minteh didn’t make an appearance for Newcastle, he was loaned out to Feyenoord in the Netherlands, where he had a successful season. At Feyenoord, he contributed to the team’s second-place finish in the Eredivisie and their KNVB Cup victory, even making his debut in the UEFA Champions League during his loan spell.

In 2024, Minteh was sold to Brighton & Hove Albion for €38 million, where he impressed during his first pre-season with the club and is now pushing to make his Premier League debut. Known for his speed, dribbling, and ability to score goals, Minteh is considered a promising talent in European football.
