Wilfred Ndidi hits milestone. African footballers. Wilfred Ndidi, a midfielder for the Super Eagles, has reached an important career milestone by making his 200th appearance in the English Premier League for Leicester City.
The Nigerian international achieved this feat during Leicester’s exciting 3-2 comeback win against Southampton last weekend. Since joining Leicester City in 2017, Ndidi has also played in major European competitions like the Champions League, Europa League, and Europa Conference League.
By reaching 200 Premier League games, Ndidi becomes part of a select group of Nigerian players who have hit this milestone. He is the ninth Nigerian to achieve this, following Shola Ameobi (298), Nwankwo Kanu (273), Alex Iwobi (261), Yakubu Aiyegbeni (252), Mikel Obi (249), Joseph Yobo (228), Victor Moses (220), and Victor Anichebe (205).
Kelechi Iheanacho, who left Leicester in the summer, is not far behind with 196 appearances. Moreover, Ndidi is now the fifth all-time player for Leicester City in Premier League appearances, behind club legends Jamie Vardy (315), Kasper Schmeichel (276), Marc Albrighton (224), and Muzzy Izzet (222).
With Leicester, Ndidi was part of the squad that won the FA Cup in 2021, the English Super Cup in the 2021/22 season, and the English Championship in the 2023/24 season. Enjoying a strong season with Leicester, Ndidi extended his contract by three years at the beginning of this campaign. So far, he has contributed one goal and four assists, proving his importance to the team.
