CAF Names Top Five for African Player of the Year: Ademola Lookman Shines Bright

African Player of the Year. African footballers. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed the final Top Five nominees for the men’s categories in the upcoming CAF Awards 2024. Among the standout players is Ademola Lookman from Nigeria, who plays for Atalanta in Italy. He is joined by Simon Adingra from Cote d’Ivoire and Brighton & Hove Albion, Serhou Guirassy from Guinea and Borussia Dortmund, Achraf Hakimi from Morocco and Paris Saint-Germain, and Ronwen Williams from South Africa and Mamelodi Sundowns.

The awards ceremony, which honors the best in African football, will take place on December 16, 2024, in Marrakech, Morocco. It aims to celebrate exceptional performances in both club and national team competitions, with the ultimate accolade being the CAF African Player of the Year for men and women.

Seven categories have been announced for the men’s awards, including Goalkeeper of the Year, Interclub Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Young Player of the Year, Club of the Year, and National Team of the Year. Each category highlights the top five individuals or teams that have excelled during the eligibility period from January to October 2024.

For the Goalkeeper of the Year award, nominees include Andre Onana from Cameroon, Yahia Fofana from Cote d’Ivoire, Mostafa Shobeir from Egypt, Stanley Nwabali from Nigeria, and Ronwen Williams from South Africa.

In the National Team of the Year category, the finalists are Nigeria, who reached the final of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations, alongside tournament champions Cote d’Ivoire, DR Congo, South Africa, and Sudan.

The CAF Awards continue to shine a spotlight on the achievements of African players, teams, and coaches, celebrating their contributions to the beautiful game on the continent and beyond.
