Real Madrid forward Brahim Diaz is reportedly a top candidate for the 2024 African Player of the Year award, ahead of Super Eagles striker Ademola Lookman. Lookman had a great season, helping Nigeria win silver at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast and scoring a hat trick in the Europa League finals to end Bayer Leverkusen’s unbeaten streak.
According to Spanish sports news outlet Diarioas, Diaz, who switched from playing for Spain to Morocco this year, is a leading contender to take over from Napoli star Victor Osimhen as the 2024 African Player of the Year.
Diaz has played in two friendlies and two World Cup qualifiers for Morocco since changing teams. He had a strong 2023-24 season with Real Madrid, scoring 12 goals and providing nine assists in 44 games. He helped the team win the UEFA Champions League, La Liga, and the Supercopa de España.
Diaz will be competing for the award with several other players, including Ademola Lookman.
