The German government has raised the monthly child allowance by 5 euros per child, resulting in the following updated amounts:

  • 1 child – 255 euros
  • 2 children – 510 euros
  • 3 children – 765 euros
  • 4 children – 1,020 euros

When is kindergeld paid in March 2025

The Federal Employment Agency distributes child allowance payments in stages to prevent banking system overload. The exact payment date depends on the last digit of the allowance number, which can be found on the approval notice or previous bank statements.

March 2025 Payment Schedule:

  • Number 0 → March 5
  • Number 1 → March 6
  • Number 2 → March 7
  • Number 3 → March 10
  • Number 4 → March 12
  • Number 5 → March 13
  • Number 6 → March 14
  • Number 7 → March 17
  • Number 8 → March 19
  • Number 9 → March 20

Important changes in 2025: Increase in allowance and tax deduction

From 2025, parents in Germany will also benefit from a higher tax deduction for children. Former Finance Minister Christian Lindner approved an increase in the tax-free amount to €9,600 per year, which is especially advantageous for higher-income families. The Tax Administration will automatically determine whether parents benefit more from the monthly child allowance or the tax deduction.

Additionally, applications for child allowance can now be submitted digitally via Bund ID or ELSTER certificate. However, required documents, such as tax IDs for parents and children or a birth certificate (for children born outside Germany), must be in official format. Email submissions are no longer accepted.
