The DiscoverEU program, which is growing in popularity each year, is reopening for thousands of young people. Through this program, 35,500 individuals will have the chance to win a free train ticket, allowing them to travel through European countries for up to 30 days. This is a great opportunity to explore new places, experience different cultures, and enjoy the diversity of Europe. However, there is one important condition that must be met to take advantage of this opportunity.
EU Gives Away Thousands of Train Tickets
What makes each edition of DiscoverEU unique is the specific age range of the participants. To join the program, you must be born between January 1, 2006, and December 31, 2006. This program is designed for young people who are stepping into adulthood, giving them a fantastic opportunity to begin this new stage of life with a passport filled with stamps from different European countries. It’s important to note that this program is not limited to European Union citizens; it is also open to individuals from Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Serbia, Turkey, and several other countries.
Applying to the program is easy but involves a two-step process. First, you need to complete a short quiz that tests your knowledge of Europe and its cultures. After that, you submit a formal application. The deadline for applications is October 16 at 12:00.

30 days of free travel
Winners will have the opportunity to travel for 30 days between March 1, 2025, and May 31, 2026. For individuals with disabilities, there is an option to travel with a companion, demonstrating the program’s commitment to accessibility for everyone. Since its launch in 2018, DiscoverEU has become incredibly popular, with 1.3 million young people applying for tickets, and 320,000 of them benefiting from free travel across Europe.
The initiative was created by two activists, Vincent-Immanuel Herr and Martin Speer, with the goal of helping young people learn more about Europe and build international connections. The idea received strong support from both politicians and the public, making the program a permanent part of the EU’s offerings for young citizens. DiscoverEU is not just about free travel; it is also a chance to spark curiosity about the world and foster a sense of community within the European family.
